Introduction...

At Bay Mountain we instruct Wing Tsun methodically so that the "dialogue" between student and instructor is coherent. The art of Wing Tsun was developed specifically to address all other styles of martial arts and our programs reflect this. Bay Mountain Wing Tsun is suitable for all people, regardless of age, physical state or previous experience.

All of our Wing Tsun classes throughout the Bay Area have a uniform standard

with a quality control system in place. Initially our programs address situations one might encounter on the street including all manner of kicks and punches, grappling, locks, chokes, and more. Then they address Wing Tsun itself.

Men and women who learn Wing Tsun develop a fresh, new awareness of their body and a heightened sense of confidence in all situations.  This confidence, born of knowing what one is capable of, is acquired through intensive, regular, professional instruction. Wing Tsun: A GAME OF CHESS FOR BODY AND MIND This newly acquired confidence and self awareness leads to an increased sense of well being on all levels.  Former personal limitations no longer restrict our everyday life.  Life becomes fuller, more satisfying.  Students of Wing Tsun no longer feel like victims, and just by that alone their likelihood of ending up in dangerous situations decreases dramatically.

Should they find themselves in a threatening situation anyway, WT students command a highly effective, weaponless method for defending themselves and loved ones.  Wing Tsun absorbs an attacker's energy, adds it to the defender's own power, and directs it with increased ferocity back against the attacker.

The WT principle is similar to principles used in a game of chess.  The chess player is one with his figures and instinctively knows the next move because of anticipating the opponent's movements at their inception.  A WT student acts likewise;  in action the WT student can "feel" an opponent's intentions and put sharpened reflexes to immediate use. FREEDOM THROUGH SELF-DEFENSEWing Tsun improves the practitioner's existing strengths and sharpens his or her powers of perception.  Once known, one's capabilities can be confidently put to use.  The person who learns Wing Tsun learns to know him or herself.  Wing Tsun never attacks -  it is aggressive only in defense.

Bay Mountain Wing Tsun Classes are 90 minutes long employing a well rounded, full spectrum from warm up through work out to cool down.

Wing Tsun is a soft style. Soft does not mean weak, it simply means that it does not counter force with force but instead recycles energy and employs a sophisticated method of responses with reflexes as opposed to thought.

85 percent of Wing Tsun training in Bay Mountain is partner based.

Wing Tsun is principal based not memory based.

We use Chi Sao to develop and hone these reflexes to specific pressures or triggers.

The Legend Of Origin...

Wing Tsun is an ancient Chinese system of self-defense.  It was developed  by a woman approximately 250 years ago and named after her first student, the girl "Wing Tsun."  Her name means "beautiful springtime" or "eternal spring."  The goal was to provide civilians in civil strife with a practical and effective, yet quickly learnable self-defense method.

Wing Tsun:  Philosophy in Action WT grew out of the Taoist tradition in eastern thinking.  In Chinese philosophy, "Tao" means "the Way."  It signifies life's eternal movement of growing, blooming, fading away, and never-ending renewal.  To achieve his unity with the Tao, man must become as the Tao itself:  spontaneous, open, simple, and flexible - not strong and hard, not mighty and arrogant.

When using Wing Tsun in self-defense or applying its principles in everyday life, one becomes like a river flowing to the sea.  Even if a mountain obstructs the river's flow, it will not be stopped.  It will reach its goal naturally, unavoidably, overcoming all obstacles on the way. To learn the instinctive use of your body in emergency self defense situations from books is impossible.  Nor could one describe in words, no matter how eloquently put, how students of WT perceive their encounter with such principally new experiences.  Practice under the attentive supervision of an experienced WT instructor will soon provide concrete ideas of what is actually achievable. What is Wing Tsun? Wing Tsun is self defense in its most uncompromising form.

Wing Tsun skills are built on the already present potential of a student.  Muscle power and conditioning are not prerequisites for Wing Tsun training.  A readiness to "listen" to one's body, to know one's strengths and to use them rigorously if required. Learning to move and respond naturally in a well-coordinated, healthy manner, and to sharpen one's powers of perception are central to the training of Wing Tsun.

Wing Tsun is a method for inner growth and a Way to a carefree, relaxed, and healthy life. Wing Tsun: AT THE CUTTING EDGE FOR OVER 250 YEARS

WT is personal advancement, period.  WT students are taught in groups, yet guided individually.  The individual's existing strengths are improved and consolidated.

WT is non-violent. WT instructors are against any aggressive form of violence.  WT is pure self defense.

WT is fun: WT instructors impart their knowledge in a relaxed and collegial atmosphere.

WT is intense and challenging.  The ability to defend one's self is acquired through focused, regular practice. At the center of Wing Tsun training stands a unique and variable technique that must be learned through concentrated practice and conscious, purposeful engagement with a partner.  Fluent motions and sudden explosive speed flow together in a systematic, coordinated, and spontaneous sequence of movement, merging body and mind into a new powerful unit.  The systematic study of Wing Tsun heightens physical and mental flexibility and improves the awareness of self and environment.  The basic training process is complemented with specific techniques for relaxation and concentration, as well as with special breathing techniques for "refueling" the body.
